#yogaTALK - MENTAL HEALTH MONTH - #NotAlone
1 in 5 Americans will experience a mental health issue this year. Now more than ever before, it is important for the mental health community to come together and show the world that no one should ever feel alone. Together we can build connection and increase awareness using the digital tools that make connection possible during a climate of physical distancing. Even in times of uncertainty, the yoga community is always here, reminding everyone that you are not alone.
Join our PURE Action #yogaTALK series every Friday at 7pm (CST). We will host several key note speakers to discuss a range of mental health issues, with plenty of time for Q&A. Get informed, and be inspired!
- Friday, May 8th - Georgia Balligian with Mardy & Jeff Chen
- Friday, May 15th - Christina Sell with Afton Carraway
- Friday, May 22nd - Dr. Kasey Claborn with Monica LeBansky and Jeanne Heaton
- Friday, May 29th - Courtney Dunn with Brooke Spencer and Casey Urban
As our offering to the mental health community, PURE Action is hosting selected FREE VIRTUAL yoga and fitness classes on our ZOOM platform for the entire month of May.
Courtney is aware that the stress of dealing with difficult life situations can manifest itself in maladaptive coping behaviors, depression, and anxiety. This can leave us feeling disconnected from ourselves, others, and the world around us. She believes that through awareness, self-compassion, and getting in touch with our true selves, we can discover that we already possess all the resources to finding peace. Courtney is a Licensed Professional Counselor, MA, LPC, YT, and works with those suffering from self-harming behaviors, personality disorders, panic, anxiety, depression, negative body image, and eating disorders.
Dr. Kasey Claborn is a research scientist and licensed clinical psychologist. She is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at Dell Medical School and an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Medicine at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. Kasey works with software teams to develop innovative technology solutions to improve clinic work flows and patient outcomes. She has developed mobile solutions to improve HIV medication adherence among patients, care coordination among treatment providers, and to reduce opioid overdose risk. She recently launched a #Covid_19 study to understand its impact on #SubstanceUse and access to services for PWUD in Texas.
Christina Sell has been practicing asana since 1991. Steeped in alignment traditions such as Iyengar yoga and Anusara yoga, she is an enthusiastic practitioner of the 26/2 sequence. Known for her precise teaching style and her down-to-earth approach to spirituality, her classes are fun, inspiring and accessible. She is the author of three books on yoga and image: Yoga From the Inside Out, My Body is a Temple, and A Deeper Yoga.
