PURE hands (1)

1 in 5 Americans will experience a mental health issue this year. Now more than ever before, it is important for the mental health community to come together and show the world that no one should ever feel alone. Together we can build connection and increase awareness using the digital tools that make connection possible during a climate of physical distancing. Even in times of uncertainty, the yoga community is always here, reminding everyone that you are not alone.

Join our PURE Action #yogaTALK series every Friday at 7pm (CST). We will host several key note speakers to discuss a range of mental health issues, with plenty of time for Q&A. Get informed, and be inspired!

As our offering to the mental health community, PURE Action is hosting selected FREE VIRTUAL yoga and fitness classes on our ZOOM platform for the entire month of May.

Courtney is aware that the stress of dealing with difficult life situations can manifest itself in maladaptive coping behaviors, depression, and anxiety. This can leave us feeling disconnected from ourselves, others, and the world around us. She believes that through awareness, self-compassion, and getting in touch with our true selves, we can discover that we already possess all the resources to finding peace. Courtney is a Licensed Professional Counselor, MA, LPC, YT, and works with those suffering from self-harming behaviors, personality disorders, panic, anxiety, depression, negative body image, and eating disorders.

Dr. Kasey Claborn is a research scientist and licensed clinical psychologist. She is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at Dell Medical School and an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Medicine at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. Kasey works with software teams to develop innovative technology solutions to improve clinic work flows and patient outcomes. She has developed mobile solutions to improve HIV medication adherence among patients, care coordination among treatment providers, and to reduce opioid overdose risk. She recently launched a #Covid_19 study to understand its impact on #SubstanceUse and access to services for PWUD in Texas.

Christina Sell has been practicing asana since 1991. Steeped in alignment traditions such as Iyengar yoga and Anusara yoga, she is an enthusiastic practitioner of the 26/2 sequence. Known for her precise teaching style and her down-to-earth approach to spirituality, her classes are fun, inspiring and accessible. She is the author of three books on yoga and image: Yoga From the Inside Out, My Body is a Temple, and A Deeper Yoga. A true angel among us, Georgia Balligian will be joining the Pure Yoga Texas community on May 8th for an interactive Q&A session to kick off our Mental Health Month #yogaTALK.
Georgia was one of Bikram Choudhury's very first students after he emigrated to the US in 1971. With nearly 50 years of practice and 23 years of full-time teaching experience, she embodies a humility that results in a palpable magnetism. Those who have been blessed to know her, take class from her, or even hear her speak have a positive mark on their hearts, and have experienced the way that simply knowing her can shift your psyche.
Georgia is fully-immersed in yoga to an extent that is rare to find in today's modern culture. She has a depth of knowledge, strength of character, and gratitude of life that makes her, in our eyes, the best person to open our community's Friday evening talks for Mental Health Month. It is an absolute treat that she will be joining us on May 8th at 7pm: an opportunity that is not to be missed!
