Hydration Inspiration!

Beat the heat from the inside out!

Feeling better in class = feeling better in life! Check out our tips for staying hydrated this year AND the benefits of doing so. BONUS: Check out a special blog post from our guest nutritionist in Dallas, Lauren Austin!

1. Start early!

We've all been there... Class starts at 10am and at 9:25am you decide it's probably best to supplement your morning coffee with a little water. No judgement! But beginning your hydration efforts early (think up to 24 hours before class time) can have a HUGE impact on how you feel and perform in class. Water does take time to digest and work it's way through your system, so the water you drink right before and during class isn't always in the best position to help you stay hydrated.

2. You can EAT your hydration too!

We all know that good ol' H20 is a classic when it comes to staying hydrated, but what about the foods you eat? Fruits and veggies with a high water concentration (think watermelon, cantaloupe, strawberries, cucumbers, celery, lettuce, and spinach) have been shown to help you meet your daily water quota. Perhaps surprisingly, even dairy products like milk, yogurt, and cottage cheese are good sources of water!

3. Hunger could be a sign of Thirst

If you find yourself often feeling hungry between your normal meals and snacks, it's possible that you are experiencing dehydration! The same part of our brain that interprets hunger signals also interprets thirst signals, and that can lead to some confusion! If you notice that you're feeling hungry, but haven't been consuming as much water, try drinking some before you reach for a heartier snack. For reference, an average person should drink about half of their body weight in ounces of water. If you practice hot yoga or work outdoors, that need may be more!

You may need more water if you are more active!

4. "Spice-Up" your water with these boosters!

Sick and tired of drinking ounces and ounces of plain water? Feel free to accessorize your H2O with anything from fresh fruits, to veggies, to herbs or ginger! Still bored? You can also experiment with water temperature or carbonation. Ice? No ice? Room temperature or cooled? The choice is yours and there really is no wrong answer! Just because water is good for you doesn't mean it needs to be boring.

5. It is possible to drink too much water.

Do you know that you're drinking above the recommended daily intake of water and still not feel your best? Although more rare, it is possible that you are consuming too much water and not enough electrolytes to balance it out. Being super flushed with water doesn't always feel great either. Try adding some electrolytes to your next glass or bottle (we love brands like Superieur) which can be found in our studios! If you want to try making your own electrolyte concoction at home, try adding a form of citrus, sugar, and salt to your water, such as lemon, honey, and sea salt!

Experiment with "spicing-up" your plain water!

6. Why does it matter?
