The highest practices of classical yoga are inward — awareness and control of the mind itself.
This 4 day workshop immerses the practitioner in tools of breath, sense and mind.
Spend the time and experience the meditative practices of yoga, along with breathing techniques and explanations of purpose, neuroscience and history.
4 FORMS OF MEDITATION
We will explore in depth the 4 different kinds of meditation — concentration, mindfulness, seer, and loving kindness. Each has its own technique and effect. We will discuss and practice each.
PRACTICE
It is one thing to understand meditation intellectually, and another to sit quietly with your mind, engaging in these techniques. This 4 day immersion emphasizes the actual practice of meditation, not just discussion.
BREATHING/PRANAYAMA
The breath is a powerful tool to focus the mind. We will do a moderate amount of pranayama — breath control — to prepare for meditation and set ourselves up for success.
HISTORY & NEUROSCIENCE
Meditation has a long history that informs its purpose and practice. When applicable, we will discuss where it comes from, including the traditions of Buddhism and Vedanta. Also, modern neuroscience is increasingly studying the impacts of these practices. We will explore the known neurological effects of meditation.
